Bread is over rated I think. Very oily and surgery. Little banana flavor. Banana bread you make at home is probably better. It is a one lane road getting there. Pretty dicey as the traffic is two way. But it is an experience if you are up for it. I just found the bread disappointing. I realize many others disagree.
I can’t review the banana bread, because I’ve never liked banana bread. But, I loved our stop. The lady was very friendly! We got banana bread, macadamia nut cookies, strawberry lemonade, and pineapples. The lemonade was incredible!
Been going for years. Recently the man working there has been charging incorrectly and giving back the wrong change. Basically skimming about 5 dollars extra from every sale. I have heard from several people issues with this man. Even today my friend said were treated unkind. Didn't have cash and would have returned for the bread if not for his behavior. Maybe this is a place of the past. No longer the innocent place it once was. The woman selling bread and shave ice just east of julia's is an incredible host. Full of hospitality. Stop there instead!!!
The banana bread was good, but not amazing. The other items for sale were excellent, and the lemonade was insanely good. This is one of those journey is better than the destination places. That's not to say it's bad at all, though. The drive is beautiful. The last stretch is one lane and a bit janky if you aren't comfortable with close passing maneuvers. But you enter a different world at that end; you see the really Hawaii, removed from the manicured and fake tourist parts. The guy working the stand when we went was really funny and super cool. Well worth the trip!
The cookies? Oh, boy! I finished them while we ventured through the remaining winding highway around the island.
The pineapple was, well, pineapple... but wonderful.
Don’t understand the hype. The bread was dry, over baked, and fairly tasteless. Aunty Sandy’s was 100 times better, and halfway to Hana was a close second.
Great little stand. Definitely recommend stopping by!
