Dr. Vince has worked with me and people I know for many years and he is great and what he does.
I was referred to Anita Laviola by Suwan McGrath who has been treating me for medication management. My first calls to Anita, at the Maui Counseling Group, started back in May of 2015. I did not get a return call after numerous calls to their office. Finally in October of 2015, I was able to speak with the receptionist who advised me that I had,had too many no-shows and Anita did not want to continue treatment with me.I was shocked and perplexed as I had not seen Anita yet.I asked them to look further into this as it was clearly a mistake.I did get a call back saying they had me confused with another patient and they apologized and my first appointment with Anita was scheduled on October 21, 2015 I saw Anita 7 times between October 2015 and December 2015. During that time I did have to cancel an appointment or two due to my ongoing migraine medical condition that keeps me in bed, unable to do nothing until they subside. This matter was discussed with Anita at our first appointment and she said she understood. She asked that I give her as much notice of not being able to make an appointment as possible. There may also been a time or two that I was not even able to call her due to the severity of the migraine. But as soon as I was able to I would call apologizing and to reschedule another appointment. When I met with Anita on December 2, 2015 she told me that I could probably call the morning of to get an appointment with her since her schedule was not too busy.I was reluctant to do this due to the problems I had getting my initial appointment with her, but understood and did not want to keep others from getting help if I was unable to make it due to my medical/mental conditions. With the holidays in full swing and my depression, anxiety and panic being at an all time high I did not call to make an appointment until late December.December 29, 2015 @ 5:10pm I called the office at 249-2121 and left a message asking when I could see Anita. The receptionist called back the next day and said she would check and get back to me.I never heard back from anyone so called the office on Jan 12, 2016 to follow up and was told that Anita did not want to see me anymore due to many missed/no show appointments. This sounded exactly like the call I had back in October when I was finally able to reach someone in the office after numerous messages over a period of months.I asked that Anita call me so that we could resolve this and I could get an appointment with her. When Anita called back, she was extremely rude and did not give me a chance to speak saying "I am not going to debate this with you and have already made up my mind and that she came in special to see me on Jan 4th since she had no other appointments that day.I tried to reason with her, but she would not have it.My sessions with Anita were extremely helpful and insightful and she dropped my care at a time I desperately needed support. This, to me, is absolutely unacceptable and the worst treatment I have EVER received from a caregiver who is supposed to be helping me when I did nothing wrong .
I called and gave my information (name, phone number, insurance details, and reason for wanting to make an appointment) twice to two different people. After not hearing back from anyone I also called and left two detailed messages including my information. On top of it, after another prolonged period of no contact, I called again and was asked to call back again next week. This all occurred over a period of 2-3 weeks. Calling to make an appointment and essentially reach out for help is not as easy a step as some people may think. I'm appalled at the customer service, or lack thereof, in dealing with someone in an obviously fragile state. The people I have chosen to share this with feel similarly and I've decided that it's probably time to seek help elsewhere. "We can help," is, frankly, a dishonest slogan in my opinion.
