The vibe is amazing. Right after arrival, I knew that I could get lost there. If you accept that it is -not- a hotel with perfect all-round service, then you won't miss out on anything there. You can experience most of Maui just by doing their daily tours. Theses are well organized and great fun. My stay at Banana Bungalow was one of the, if not even -the best- hostel experience I had in the last 9 years of staying in hostels. Thank you guys!
Hawaii is as expensive as Norway so this hostels 40$ a night per bed is no exception. I believe it needs a refit pretty soon. Would be cool if they had a bar selling beer!
The staff are all friendly and open minded guys. We had a nice stay there. Sometimes it was a bit too loud at the evening. But we enjoyed it though.
The free tours are highly recommended. And don’t hesitate to give some tip. ;)
Pretty good location, but the place is basically ran by a bunch of 20 year-olds so it's not very clean, your food is readily stolen by some of the vagrants even when marked, and there is a slew of maintenance being ignored(they can't even sharpen kitchen knives). The upside is a very casual atmosphere- the free tours are awesome; the staff running them are knowledgeable and take their time to make sure you know whats going on. There are much better hostels for the same price-I would shop around!!
A really great hostel for travellers/backpackers. The communal lounge is a great place to meet people - everyone happy to hang out and chat, awesome free bus tours every day! This is the best hostel I have stayed in worldwide to date after years of travelling the globe.
